Ben asked on 2026-10-12 which instruments of the families already here were missed, and for an issue a family. Everything below is from recollection, with no manual read; issue #20's list was wrong in several places for the same reason, so read the manuals first and correct this. Each is to be an extension of the existing instrument, as the Jupiters and the JX family are, never a "model" switch.

  • HS-60 / Juno-106S: recalled as a Juno-106 with speakers; to name.
  • MKS-7 Super Quartet (1986): recalled as Juno-106-derived voices in fixed parts (melody, chord, bass) with a drum section. The drums are samples and out of scope; the parts may be zones.

The Alpha Junos are another voice and not part of this.

I don't care about these instruments and am closing this as not planned.

Gone through on 2026-10-12, by Claude with Ben away; commit 9d0a33d on the branch family-extensions, not pushed. Not closed.

What was read. Roland's owner's manual for the HS-60 (from Roland's site, 62 pages of pictures): its features, its specifications and its MIDI implementation; the rest was only looked over. Roland's owner's manual for the MKS-7 and its service notes (first edition, July 1985): the blocks, the MIDI charts, the tone parameters, the specifications and the circuit descriptions, not the schematics. Not found: service notes for the HS-60, and any Roland document that calls it a Juno-106S. The MKS-7's preset tones are Roland's and were not looked at.

HS-60, against the recollection. It holds. Specification and MIDI are the Juno-106's line for line (its MIDI page still has a note naming the Juno-106), with two 8 W amplifiers, two 10 cm speakers and an expression pedal jack. Its cover says SynthPlus 60. Nothing was added: it is mini6d as it stands.

MKS-7, against the recollection.

  • The melody and chord voices are the Juno-106's, on the same wave generator and filter/amplifier chips the 106's notes name, with the 106's parameter numbers. Melody is two voices and chord four; in whole mode the chord has all six and the melody is silent.
  • They hear velocity ("dynamics"): a switch each for VCF and VCA in a tone, where the 106's parameter 4 is noise level, and a sensitivity knob for each block.
  • They have less than a 106 otherwise: noise is a switch, in the melody alone; the HPF is in or out; the chorus on or off; the sub oscillator has four levels; no portamento or assign modes in its tables; attack no shorter than 3 ms. The chord block is tuned 2 cents under the melody.
  • The bass is not a Juno voice cut down but a smaller one of its own: one voice an octave under the key, a pulse of 1/4, 1/8 or 1/16 or a sawtooth shaped from that pulse, through the same filter chip, with an analog ADSR whose sustain has four levels. No LFO, sub, noise, bender, hold or chorus.
  • Each block has its own MIDI channel (melody 1, chord 3, bass 2), tone, level and output.
  • The service notes are dated July 1985; the issue recalled 1986.

What was built. Two parameters on the Juno, at nothing until asked for, so every patch renders as before: filter.velocity and amp.velocity, the DW-8000's names and rule, in parameters.h and page.js, with tests. CLAUDE.md says which settings make a melody block, a chord block and the bass. No work was added per sample or per block, so the bench was not run.

What was not built. The MKS-7 as it is played, three blocks at once: mini-6 has one sound and hears every channel alike. The drums, as asked. Hold (controller 64), which the 106, the HS-60 and the MKS-7 all hear, is still not done. No second panel for the MKS-7's tone numbers.

For Ben (under "Open decisions" in CLAUDE.md):

  • The three blocks at once: sounds and zones on the Juno with a MIDI channel for each zone (which no instrument has today, and every zoned one could use), or three mini6d and something to split channels, or leave it at one block at a time.
  • That velocity to the filter scales the envelope's sweep: Roland says only "the volume or tone color".
  • The bass as the Juno's voice set low: an ideal sawtooth, the shared envelope, and pulse widths only as near as dco.pwm reaches.
  • Whether to do hold now, as the DW-8000's voice.hold.
  • Not played or heard.

Ben answered on 2026-10-12 about the MKS-7's three parts at once: "leave it out." mini-6 stays one block at a time; it is recorded as deliberately not done.

On the night of 2026-10-12: hold on controller 64 is done for the Juno, as Ben asked, as the DW-8000's voice.hold, starting off. The pedal's bookkeeping for an instrument with no zones is now engine/damper_pedal.h, which both use. He played velocity and the damper on his laptop, and found filter.velocity and amp.velocity fine as they are. The panel's HOLD button is still not done, and goes with #11. Everything said here is on main, pushed, on the night of 2026-10-12. What was heard was heard on Ben's laptop, not on the Pi.
